Ungerer Staff Brave the Mud to Fundraise for Chester Municipal Charities
Staff from Chester’s flavour, fragrance and essential oils manufacturer, Ungerer Ltd, have raised vital funds for Chester Municipal Charities (CMC) by tackling the Tough Mudder at Cholmondeley Castle. The team from Ungerer have so far raised £540 for the charity – which helps good causes throughout the Chester area – by completing the muddy 5K obstacle course on Saturday 7th September.
Paul French, Nikki Carter, Ella Ferris and Angela Shaw – based at Ungerer Ltd on Sealand Road, Chester – chose CMC because of the charity’s support for community and educational organisations in the city. The four were part of an 18-strong group from Ungerer who tackled the challenging event in the grounds of the stately home, near Nantwich.
Paul French, Special Projects Manager at Ungerer, said: “There was a tremendous buzz among everyone after we completed the course – but we could hardly recognise each other because of being caked head to toe in mud.
“We chose CMC as our nominated charity because it’s a fantastic organisation that is local to where we work and benefits people of all ages. It provides funding for community organisations and for education, as well as almshouse accommodation for people in need. I now plan to do more activities to support the cause.
“There were many staff members, family and friends who raised funds for CMC. However, the Tough Mudder was a great team effort across the whole Ungerer team with participants pushing themselves beyond their boundaries and helping each other across the finish line. We also had spectators come along and support us with words of encouragement.
“Plus, our managing director has said the company will match what we’ve raised, which will be a great bonus for the charity.”
Peter Catherall, Chairman of Chester Municipal Charities, thanked the Ungerer team for their ‘terrific’ fundraising efforts.
Peter said: “We applaud the contribution of Paul, Nikki, Ella and Angela, who braved thick mud and obstacles in order to help people in need throughout the Chester area.
“We’re unusual in that we’re not a traditional fundraising charity and this is the first time any individuals have donated to us in this way. We hope more people will feel inspired to follow Ungerer’s example by supporting our work.”
Based at the Grade II*-listed Bluecoat building – a hub for charities and voluntary organisations in Upper Northgate Street, Chester – CMC is one of the city’s oldest charities. Other charities based in the building include Chester Voluntary Action, Chester Aid to the Homeless, and Vision Support.
The Tough Mudder 5K is a teamwork-focused, obstacle-crammed event, open to anyone aged 13 or over.
